Saltwater fishing has shifted into winter mode with most of the Chum run through the narrows and on to their respective home rivers. Overall, it was fairly decent Chum season with the exception of the slight hiccup where the fishery closed due to a lack of fish, while anglers were boating up to 30 fish per day. Once the fishery re-opened, the peak of the run had passed and effort rapidly dwindled.
Chinook fishing continues to be good, as over-wintering feeder fish have taken up residence at the Cape Mudge Lighthouse and the Hump just to the south. These fish are a tasty addition to any table.
Freshwater fishing has been excellent. Trout are aggressively feeding in an effort to fatten up before spawning. They tend to congregate at creek mouths about this time of year and can be caught on all kinds of gear, ranging from flies, to cast spoons, to bait.
Winter Steelhead should be beginning to appear in local rivers any time now. Run timing is specific to each river, the Quinsam and Nimpkish rivers have earlier runs than the Gold, Salmon and Oyster rivers.
