Saltwater fishing continues to be productive, with reports coming in of legal sized Chinook being caught at Shelter Point, and to a lesser degree, at the Lighthouse and the Hump. During the winter months, when the water is much clearer than summer, many anglers fish with small spoons and no flasher, or a Tomic plug in 4" or 5". This allows a hooked fish more freedom of movement and provides a better fight for the angler.
Prawning has been excellent, with good catches coming from the east side of Quadra and around Marina Island. Note, there are seasonal closures now in place, see http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/rec/opportunities-possibilites/prawn-crevette/2012/s13-s15-eng.htm for details
Freshwater anglers are, for the most part, fishing for winter Steelhead. These fish can be somewhat elusive, but are easiest to catch when water conditions are medium to high.
Lake fishing has been good, with most lakes producing Cutthroat and Rainbow trout around inflows.
